MLK Library Friends Fund “Story Walk” Outside Renovated Memorial Library

As we await the full re-opening of the renovated MLK Library, interested kids and their grownups can go for a “story walk” under the library’s front loggia. A StoryWalk is a physically deconstructed picture book whose pages have been posted along a path or trail. DCPL’s first ever StoryWalk is now on display among the outdoor pillars of our MLK Library, featuring the award-winning  book of Dr. King’s  I Have A Dream speech, and Kadir Nelson’s magnificent  illustrations. StoryWalk was first created by a chronic disease prevention specialist to boost health through outdoor activity for both children and parents. Librarians around the world adopted it for its literacy incentive as well.  Our DCPL librarians have provided thoughtful questions along the walk to provoke discussion among viewers of all ages.  The Friends are proud to support the project and thank Youth Librarian Paula Langsam for asking!

The StoryWalk® Project was founded by creator Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
