Dear Friends of MLK, The DC Library system has been busy throughout COVID serving readers, learners and library users in myriad ways. Now, as things become normal-ish, the library schedule of programs is blooming wildly. There’s pretty much something for everyone. Come to MLK this Wednesday night from 6 til 8 pm for A Punk Rock Rooftop Concert. Last month’s concert was spectacular fun, showed the broad crosssection of age groups that Punk draws in. Come early and grab a light bite at Marianne’s cafe on the first floor. I particularly recommend the Asian Kale Salad. Enough to share. Hope to see you there on Wednesday. I urge you to sign up for Beyond Words — DCPL’s weekly newsletter (archives) — to know what is available at your branch library as well as MLK Central. Importantly, check the schedule for re-cycling of electronics at libraries throughout the city — a wonderful and much needed service. Also free Tech 101 workshops. And reserve your spot for Library Days at some of DC’s museums. Best, Robin DC Punk Archive Library Rooftop Shows: A Summer Series |
Celebrate the local DC punk scene with a summer concert series overlooking the city! DC Public Library’s DC Punk Archive is bringing local bands to the roof of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library every second Wednesday through August. This month, we welcome Cinema Hearts and Continuals on Wednesday, July 13 starting at 6:30 p.m.
DC Punk Archive is a project of the People’s Archive which looks to preserve and provide access to the music and ephemera of DC’s local punk music history. Much of the collection was donated by local Washingtonians (and DC Public Library employees!), and parts have been digitized and made available through the library’s digital collections portal, DigDC. Explore the distorted riffs, art-filled zines and photography of DC punk music with us!
